Mixed weather

Mixed weather

The mixed weather was welcomed today. The rain washed away a lot of the snow but the thick, treacherous ice remained. Perhaps another mild night, and a bizarre wish for more rain will hasten the transformation of the ice back to water.

Mathematics won’t helped the mixed weather

Today, a topic in the news caught my attention. the PM is expected to make an announcement today regarding his new mission to have all children in England study maths up to the age of 18. Why single out maths for school children to study. I am sure I am not alone in saying, school days with enforced maths would not have been my choice. At school, as soon as I was able to drop it as a subject I did and replaced it with a creative choice. School subjects should be about choice. Perhaps other subjects are more important to individuals wishing to align their study and pursue a non maths career. I wonder what provision Rishi Sunak has made for a more creative course of study?

Milder mixed weather

The milder weather of January has, so far, put little strain on wildlife. The local songbirds and squirrels are frequent visitors to the garden feeders. Interestingly, we also had a Jay come in to feed. The larger wildlife, a wild herd of red deer stags are looked well and rounded. There are no scraggy looking animals as the daily feeding has helped them build a good layer of fat on their bodies. Harsh winter weather acts as a natural cull across the rural and remote landscape. The old and young, injured and frail are the first to succumb. Although it is nature doing her thing, it is sad to find dead animals killed by the harsh winter weather. However, that is what happens in the wilds of Scotland.
