A countryside gathering at Moy took place on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 August, 2023. Traditionally Moy Country Fair, it used to be know as the Highland Field Sports Fair, takes place on the first Friday and Saturday of August. This year’s fair attracted big crowds on both days, despite rain being forecasted.
A countryside gathering after all
An outdoor event is populated by outdoors lovers so the weather shouldn’t put people off. If you live in, or love Scotland, you will no doubt have waterproofs, boots, wellies, hats and brollies to hand. Over the two days, I was based on the GWCT stand by the main ring where I promoted and sold my book, ‘For the Love of Country Sports’. The stand was visited by a wide range of people. From seasoned stalkers, to retired ghillies, and also visitors from Devon and further afield. One thing in common was the passion for the Scottish countryside.

Countryside gatherings create a space where people can get together and feel part of the event. Often countryside workers work alone, and the long and unsociable hours required to do their jobs can be isolating. The workload can have a negative impact on their social life however a country fair is an idea opportunity to mix.
