Conversations with rural women over 50.
Rural life is rewarding, demanding, occasionally isolating and rarely quite what people imagine. The Feral Women’s Club is a place for honest conversations with women who know that life first-hand.
We’ll talk about the realities of living and working in the countryside, the challenges we face, the things that keep us going and the experiences we share. No polished versions of rural life, just real women talking about the lives they lead.
Episode 01
Catherine Walker: A Conversation About Rural Life
For our first conversation, recorded on the International Day of Rural Women, I sat down with Catherine Walker to talk about life in rural Scotland.
A former firefighter, Catherine now runs Glendoll Lodge, providing accommodation and meals for stalking guests. Living in a remote Angus glen, she knows the realities of rural life, from unpredictable weather and isolation to the demands of running a business and caring for animals.
We talk about the challenges of living and working in the countryside, the frustrations of being unable to get out on the hill, and the pleasures of living in such a remarkable landscape.
An informal conversation about the realities of rural life, from a woman who knows them first-hand.
