Scotland’s stag stalking season. The deer stalking season for stags starts on 1st July through to 20th October. It’s a busy time for deer stalkers to achieve their cull numbers. Many estates are visited by hillwalkers, campers and bothy fans all year round. However, during the stalking season an awareness is called for on working estates.

Nature Scot urges hillwalkers to check online for deer stalking activity. They ask this is done before setting off during the busiest part of the season. Estate stalking dates vary from estate to estate, some start immediately in July whilst others commence later on in September. The weather has been unusually warm. The heat may have inspired people to take to the hills and may have unwittingly disturbed stalkers do their job. The nature of stalking means they won’t necessarily be visible.
