My countryside story started here

My countryside story started here with this man. Sadly, my Father, Lawrie Robertson, passed away on Sunday 25th June 2023, in hospital, aged 84. Sitting by his hospital bedside for 5 days was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do, surpassed only by watching him take his last breath and leaving this world.

My Countryside story

Family life was an active one, brought up with gundogs, who were also family pets, and ponies were aspects of my parents’ great plan to keep my sister and I occupied as we grew. Our childhood was an outdoors one, every minute spent in the Scottish countryside. My countryside story started here. I was only months old when our first labrador joined our clan. This continued with a long line of working dogs right up to 2023. Each outing, pigeon or game shooting, was with my father, and when we returned home after a long but exhilarating day out, we stopped off at elderly friends and relatives to give them a bird or two.

Our countryside stories

Our countryside stories are important, if they are not recorded they fade and disappear. Lifestyles are so different when compared to the 1970s and 1980s. Looking back, people had more time for one another, and there were no gadgets of distraction. We got together, we rejoiced in retelling our tales and lovingly created new ones. Capturing our stories became the most important aspect of publishing the 2023 edition of my book, For the Love of Country Sports, on sale via Amazon. It is now dedicated to my Dad.
