The Northern lights of May were spectacular. Nearly everyone caught sight of the colourful display. A remote location without light pollution wasn’t required to see the dazzling display of colour dancing across the sky. Seeing the aurora borealis isn’t so unusual in remote parts of Scotland but it is rare to see such a vibrant display with the naked eye. Early astronomers also mentioned the northern lights in their records. A royal astronomer inscribed his report of the phenomenon on a tablet dated to 567 B.C.
