Is age the barrier?

Is age the barrier?

Is age the barrier? It’s a subject I have pondered on quite a lot recently in my business. If you are a woman within my age group, self-employed and rural, you’ll likely relate to the challenges. I am in my late 50s, and I live in rural Perthshire.

Is age the barrier to learning when you are self-employed

Since 2000, I have been a self-employed photographer, and writer. There have been many changes in business promotion as technology improved and social media platforms appeared. We use our technology to promote our businesses and services on social media, and this is where the confusion starts. With so many platforms, I’m more bamboozled than inspired. When it comes to business marketing and promotion, what and where should I post? Should I make regular videos? Should I focus on one platform, on two or perhaps all…?

Advances in age and marketing savvy

Over the years I’ve updated my skills, and picked up some new ones. But I am finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the changing landscape. The more I read, the more confused I feel. There is guidance available but it’s tough finding advice that really speaks to me and applies to my business, in previous attempts to seek out help, I’ve felt rushed, and misunderstood.

Age, menopause and working life

In my age group, women have gone through the menopause, and no matter how few symptoms we’ve experienced, it still impacts on how we function: our energy levels, brain fog, ability to concentrate, confidence, anxiety – it truly changes your life. I have never spoken publicly about menopause in the self-employed workplace until now. Here is a recent news story about an employed woman, and what she went through. In an effort to take me out of my comfort zone, I made a video. I’m hoping to connect with other women who may feel, like me, more bamboozled than inspired.

Best wishes,

Linda
